Keep Your Eye on the "Big Picture" in Dispatch

Load planners need to make decisions rapidly, often making changes on the fly. Back in the days of the T-card, a quick glance at the board provided an instant visual of the big picture, allowing savvy dispatchers to quickly match loads with available drivers and keep everything in motion.

When load planning software was introduced about 10 years ago, Nussbaum adopted a popular software package only to become quickly frustrated. Information that was formerly right in front of dispatchers was suddenly buried in text format and only available after navigating through several screens.

Our team went to work immediately on a solution, customizing the software to include a Gantt-chart view of driver schedules. Our dispatchers were thrilled. They loved the efficient drag and drop capabilities that allowed them to make better decisions, such as finding the closest loads and drivers, seeing available hours and the amount of deadhead, and much more.

And they weren’t the only ones. Programmers at TMW Systems were so impressed with the improvements that they purchased the software innovations designed by Nussbaum and integrated them into the company’s Dispatch Advantage product. Today, the changes we designed here are in use at trucking companies throughout the country.

According to a TMW press release, “the software provides a graphical time and calendar view of daily work schedules by driver and by order. It includes all the information that dispatchers need to manage multiple drivers with time-sensitive loads, including driver histories and available orders, who is entering or leaving a given region, load planning and driver dispatch communications – all in a simple, easy-to-use, color-coded format.”

But of course we didn’t stop there. We’ve continued to customize the product, always looking for ways to improve our operations, and your bottom line. We can’t help it. It’s just the way we think.
