Do you find feedback more helpful once a year - or once a month? When it comes to safety, effectiveness and efficiency, the more we monitor driver performance with an eye toward improvement, the more money we can save our customers, and in turn, the more profitable we become.

While Nussbaum has been issuing its drivers report cards on annual performance for many years, the challenge of collecting details for every Nussbaum driver was daunting. Information was scattered in different places and it was very labor intensive to compile all the necessary data. Changing costly driver practices was a slow process – and measuring the impact of that change was even tougher.

Highly customized Driver Manager software has made those challenges a thing of the past. Today, report cards are issued once a month through an automated system that collects and calculates all necessary data to provide continuous feedback to drivers. Nussbaum’s innovative program, built by our IT staff in-house, is itself the subject of continuous improvement. First introduced in 2005, the initial focus of the reports was related to safety issues such as accident rates, moving violations, and injuries. The first round of improvements focused on fuel performance, including miles-per-gallon, idle time and fuel purchases. Today, more enhancements are underway to further increase productivity.

Our system is highly customized to incorporate information directly from the other technologies Nussbaum employs to maximize efficiency and safety, including EFS fuel cards and data from PeopleNet Electronic On-Board Recorders.
