X-Duty Cuts significant costs for Electrolux

To support the manufacture of freezers, Electrolux faced a costly transportation equation. They traditionally brought in steel coils on flatbeds, but had nothing to load on those trucks going back out. They had capacity leaving the plant, but could not use it. At the same time, the finished product was hauled to distributors on van trailers. Both ends of this operation generated significant deadhead miles.

To solve this problem Nussbaum developed the X-Duty Trailer.

The new X-Duty Trailer is dual-purpose van trailer that was designed to meet the demands of extremely high stress requirements – supporting loads over 50% greater than any other van trailer in the industry to date.

Now the same trailer is used for both in-bound raw materials and out-bound freight, cutting transportation needs almost in half. Steel coils are loaded and unloaded by a very heavy forklift that drives right into the van. The same van is then utilized to haul finished freezers to distribution centers.

This solution puts fewer trucks on the road and cuts fuel consumption dramatically.
