In the midst of this Holiday Season, it’s easy to find ourselves overwhelmed with last minute gifts, the anxiety and anticipation of getting together with friends and family, and numerous Christmas parties. It can be wearying. But then, there’s hope; the message of Jesus Christ, the gift of a Savior, Christmas music, the warmth of a fireplace, and the rekindling of relationships. I absolutely love this season!
My wife asks me every year what I want for Christmas and I tell her the same thing, nothing……I have everything I need. But this year was different. It came to me that the only gift that is important is “time” with our kids. My wife and I have been blessed with seven children, two of them son-in-laws and some of them live a little distance from us. Our kids began arriving home this past week for Christmas festivities and to celebrate the birthday of our oldest daughter. One evening, as we were all gathered in our home, there were multiple conversations going on at the same time. My wife and I sat back and listened to them share funny stories, life experiences, and dreams for the future. Our hearts were really warmed! It reminded us that Christmas was not only about celebrating the Birth of Jesus Christ, but a time of caring, sharing, and enjoying each other as a family. We simply couldn’t ask for a better Christmas gift.
We’re approaching a New Year. While we don’t know what it will bring, let’s choose to honor God by giving the gift of time to our family and friends and bring Him into everything to make 2017 the best, and most blessed year ever.
I wish all of you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!
